Iams prescription dry cat food recalled by Proctor & Gamble may cause health concern to humans

Proctor & Gamble has recalled Iams prescription dry cat food due to possible salmonella contamination. This product may also cause health concerns in humans handling the pet food.

Two lots of the formula cat food which is specifically for cats with kidney disease tested positive during an FDA analysis. Those in possession of this cat food should not use it under any circumstances. Consumers may want to contact the place of purchase to learn about refunds.

Cat owners using this prescription pet food that is available through a veterinarian are the only ones that should be concerned. Other Iams products not discussed here are not included in this recall.

Customers may also call (877) 894-4498 to get more information about this recall and about refunds being offered.

Codes that will be on the Iams Veterinary Formula that were recalled are on the sides of the bags. These lots include #s 01384174B4 0 19014 21405 1 and 101384174B2 0 1901405 1.

There have been no illnesses reported at this time. However, consumers are cautioned that handing a pet food that is contaminated with salmonella can cause a human to become infected. Salmonella can cause fatal infections in animals and humans. In particular, there is a concern for the very young, frail or those with impaired immune systems.

Check for further information about the Iams recall and find other useful information by visiting the Iams website.

Handing any pet foods requires thorough hand washing because such products may possibly contain contaminants that will infect the person handling the pet food and others.

  1. Iams should be blacklisted and blocked for the inadequacy of the making and handling of our beloved pets “food”! It is big greedy corporations making our pets sick and/or killing them.
